Doing Life Right

Doing Life Right

I woke up slowly today and cooked myself a scrumptious, oozing, spicy breakfast quesadilla.

And as I sit here eating this delicious meal, chewing every single bite as thoughtfully as possible, I realize it is completely plausible that all the wonder in the cosmos exists right here on my plate. Do we not live for the experience of sublime taste? Is not the satisfaction of fulfilled hunger one's simple, yet most profound human achievement?

In this moment of quiet serenity and savory musing, (untethered to my cellular device, mind you) I begin to ruminate. My open eye paints a colorful picture, telling the story of all the learning I have attained through my travels. The time I met an elephant in Chiang Mai, peered out at Africa from the Great Gibraltar, then rolled around the Sahara with the great mammals, climbed the Eiffel Tower, ran through sugar cane fields in Jamaica, swam with sharks at the Great Barrier Reef, played the sitar with a heart-happy man in Istanbul, smoked hookah in Tokyo, Irish-danced in a Dublin pub, pizza-skied the Swiss Alps, and much, much more! All this worldly adventuring opened my spirit to the infinite possibilities of existence. My consumption of culture has empowered me to journey toward making my dream a reality in the now.

Which brings me to the revelation that the work I have done to be able to wake up lazily, without clockwork anxiety, without the hustle and bustle to get a move on, to take it easy on a Thursday and to eat my breakfast extremely mindfully like an old turtle in total peace means, to me, I am doing life right.
