Silver and Gold

Silver and Gold

Make new friends, but keep the old.  One is Silver and the other's Gold.  This childhood saying reflects so much about how I feel right now.  I am home, in Malibu, on spring break and just now- in this moment I have come to realize the true importance of said phrase.

I think it is important for every person to recognize how much past relationships with friends and family influence your everyday life.  I mean you may not even notice it, but I swear it happens all the time.  It's almost like you- as a person draws from the millions of characteristics and little ticks gathered from people close to you.  Basically what I am trying to say is you wouldn't be anywhere without the people who have laughed with you, cried with you and even yelled at you.

I am in college now and I have an amazing group of friends there. I try my hardest to take each moment as it comes and soak in the time I have with the amazing people around me. Coming back home, though made me realize I had that in high school too- I just didn't know it at the time.  The free-spirited cool mixing pot of people who I called my best friends during my teenage years have stayed pretty much the same.  Being back here brought me back to those days and gave me the chance to savor each of the memories from the past and even make more in the short time I was here.  I am so thankful to have all of the people in my life, whether silver or gold, you are all amazing and I love you.  Cherish your friends everyday, it's because of them that you are where you are.
